Down Home Kitchen was established by Mary Alice Proffitt in the fall of 2015 in beautiful and historic downtown Montpelier, Vermont, as a community-minded restaurant serving scratch made, with love, homestyle cooking and baking like her mother, Sally, and grandmother, Miriam, made for her growing up in Atlanta, Georgia.
Chef Rowan Kastner creates delicious menus drawing from the good quality ingredients available to us here in Vermont and from his background and passion for simple food done well.
Down Home's caring and talented staff work hard each and every day to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for you, cooking and serving each customer's meal with the best quality local, free-range and organic ingredients whenever possible while still maintaining a price point and menu that is accessible to all in our diverse community.
